Clinic Leader – Clinical Operations & Business Development

Johnson Recruitment is proud to be exclusively partnering with Mind Medicine Australia in their search for a Clinic Leader to lead their flagship clinic in Abbotsford, Melbourne.

The Role:

Mind Medicine Australia Clinic (MMAC), based in Abbotsford, Melbourne, is an outpatient Centre of Excellence delivering innovative psychedelic-assisted therapies for complex conditions, including treatment-resistant depression and PTSD. MMAC also operates as a trial site for research initiatives in the field of psychedelics.

MMAC is seeking a commercially minded, hands-on Clinic Leader to oversee day-to-day operations, financial performance, business development, and clinical governance. Reporting directly to the Board, you’ll drive clinic occupancy, expand external professional referral networks, manage operational workflows, clinical governance and grow the practice.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape a pioneering healthcare business in an evolving, highly regulated environment, combining operational leadership, commercial acumen, and strategic development. It is ideally suited to an experienced Practice Manager with commercial nous or broader health executive who is able to review, develop and run operational mechanics with confidence and is eager to step up into broader commercial growth and business development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Practice Operations: Run day-to-day clinic workflows, including, patient and referrer Inquiries, Cliniko scheduling, billings, and collections, third party funding opportunities (including Medicare, Department of Veteran Affairs,Medibank, Workcover, NDIS, and Mind Medicine Australia’s patient support fund), strong clinical governance and maximisation of 7- consulting suites across multi-hour dosing sessions and clinician rooms.
• Referral Growth & Intake: Proactively manage the patient pipeline by building external referral networks with GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists and other health professional and inbound inquiries while ethically converting suitable inbound patient inquiries after clinical sign off. You will also lead initiatives to introduce new treatments to the clinic to drive revenue growth and leverage strategies to increase consulting room utilisation.
• Financial Oversight: Manage clinic budgets, track cash flow and P&L in Xero, and deliver regular performance updates to the Board.
• Governance & Team Leadership: Coordinate contractor clinicians (psychiatrists, therapists, nurses) while ensuring strict TGA Authorised Prescriber and Schedule 8 compliance.
• Development as a Centre of Excellence: Strong interface with Mind Medicine Australia’s clinician training activities and peak body clinician supervision requirements as well as exploration of replication opportunities around Australia.

About You:

You are a commercially astute, proactive healthcare leader who thrives on building, growing and potentially replicating a clinic in an emerging, evolving environment. You enjoy refining systems and processes, driving sustainable growth and taking ownership in an early-stage setting where you can make a tangible impact, rather than stepping into an established corporate environment.

Essential:

• Proven practice or broader health sector management and leadership experience: Proven experience managing an outpatient medical practice or other health sector business (in the latter case with ability to quickly understand the essentials of managing a clinical practice) with specialist psychiatric/psychology clinics, or premium allied health facility management experience an advantage.
• Hands-on Billing & Systems: Practical expertise in medical billing, fee structures, and practice software (Cliniko preferred) or an ability to quickly master the necessary systems and variables.
• Proactive BD Capability: Demonstrated success in reaching out to external referrers, building medical networks, and growing patient numbers or pharmaceutical understanding.
• Commercial & Strategic Acumen: Solid experience managing budgets, monitoring cash flows, optimising system usage and costs and reporting to senior stakeholders or a Board combined with a pragmatic strategic drive to develop the clinic as a centre of excellence and replication opportunity.
• Agile Governance Mindset: Sound understanding of clinical governance and compliance, with the autonomy to build systems in a lean startup environment.

Desirable:

• Specialist Sector Experience: Background in mental health, trauma-informed care, medicinal cannabis, or private fee-for-service medicine.
• Regulatory & Research Frameworks: Familiarity with TGA Authorised Prescriber (Schedule 8) pathways and/or clinical trial site operations (GCP).

An attractive salary package is offered and consists of a base salary between $150k – $165k + super for a full time role depending on experience with potential to pro-rate to a 4 day working week if the successful candidate prefers this.

The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in a discretionary profits based bonus scheme after 12 months in the role.
