Fiona’s Story

Dear Mind Medicine Australia team,

I am writing to express my heartfelt thanks to Mind Medicine Australia for the support I have received through the Patient Support Fund across my recent applications.

With the assistance of the PSF, I was able to access MDMA-assisted therapy at a time when I was experiencing significant and overwhelming PTSD symptoms, including frequent emotional flooding and difficulty maintaining safety and regulation in everyday life. Without this support, accessing this treatment would not have been financially possible for me.

Through my MDMA-assisted therapy journeys, I have been able to safely and compassionately work through multiple layers of trauma, including experiences from different stages of my childhood and adolescence. Being able to meet and process these younger parts of myself, who carried the impact of abuse and trauma, has been profoundly transformative. This work has given me a depth of self-understanding, integration, and compassion that I had not previously been able to access through other therapeutic modalities.

I am incredibly grateful to share that I have now reached a major milestone. I have commenced my first clinical placement as a provisional psychologist. I can say with certainty that I would not be at this point without the support of the Patient Support Fund. The safety, trust, and internal stability I developed through MDMA-assisted therapy made it possible for me to return to training, tolerate clinical demands, and engage meaningfully in therapeutic work with clients.

Already, this healing has translated directly into my clinical practice. My supervisor has commented on my capacity to help clients feel safe and held within the therapeutic space, something they described as a particular strength of mine. I deeply believe this capacity is a direct reflection of the safety and relational healing I experienced within my own MDMA-assisted therapy. Being able to feel safe in therapy myself has fundamentally shaped how I now show up for others.

I also want to acknowledge that healing is an ongoing process. While the support I have received so far has been profoundly impactful, I remain committed to continuing this work with care and intention. I will continue to build upon this foundation as I move forward both personally and professionally, with deep respect for the journey of integration and growth that remains ahead.

Thank you for your commitment to equitable access and for recognising the life-changing impact of psychedelic-assisted therapies. Your support has not only helped me heal but has enabled me to move forward into a profession where I hope to support others with the same care, compassion, and safety I was shown.

With sincere gratitude,

Fiona
